Sutton Veny Diamond Jubilee Celebrations
Monday 4th - 5th June 2012
The Theme is Back2-52
On Monday 4th June As part of the Queens Diamond Jubilee celebration we aim to hold a 1950’s dance in the village hall, glitter ball and all. Remember this is before the present dance style of bobbing up and down in front of your partner. Waltz, Quickstep, Foxtrot, Swing, old time Valeta, St Bernard’s waltz. Jiving was a little later than that but it was a fun dance so we shall have some of that. We hope to be able to organize some very basic dance lessons so you enjoy the occasion. Not Strictly Sutton Come Dancing but Strictly Sutton Fun Dancing.
On Tuesday 5th June the intention is to hold a street party in High Street, which will include all the above activities and more. It’s success in totally dependant on the people of the village taking part, letting their hair down and joining in the fun.
The plan so far is to close the High Street between Norton Road and Bests Lane Junction. The “Back Drop” for the street Party is a vehicle free street. Arrangement are being made to transport those villagers from outside this area, by “period transport…. A kind of park and ride. We have the use of tables and chairs but hopefully people can provide their own so that we can seat all concerned and make the day a huge party.

We shall be holding an open meeting on Wednesday18th January in the Village Hall to progress ideas. Time to follow. Why not come along with your ideas. If you can’t make it you can post your ideas in the Back2-52 post box, outside Jessamine Cottage next to the Woolpack, above the old water pump. We may even have that working on June 5th.
