1948 - 49

Greetings from Victoria on Vancouver Island, Canada,

I was posted to Sutton Veny about June 1948 until demobbed in August 1949. My recollection of that time is that there were three camps along the Deverill Road. I was a vehicle mechanic in 27th Command Work Shops of REME and we occupied the buildings now part of the trading estate; to the west of us and adjoining was a separate camp that I believe was occupied by Royal Engineers and across the street from us was a small camp occupied I believe by the Royal Artillery although they left that location some time in 1949. We REME people repaired vehicles at a location somewhere on the north east outskirts of Warminster.

If you would like more of this stuff I will put in the necessary effort. I also have a few photos that I might be able to scan. I am surprised that other military people seem not to have not contacted you with their recollections, perhaps there are not many of us left.
Regards, David Brown.
