What We Do

Helping to care for the building and churchyard of St John the Evangelist's Church Sutton Veny

Friends of Sutton Veny Church (FOSVC) is a charitable organisation set up to enable all those with a connection to this special building to contribute to its care; ensuring that it continues both as a vibrant component of village life and the peaceful resting place, not only for past villagers but also for many Australian servicemen and women from WW1.

How We Help

Making and maintaining a connection

Maintaining

Church Candles

Preserving the past

Our church is architecturally splendid. Designed by JL Pearson, who later went on to design Truro Cathedral, it is a very fine example of Victorian Gothic. Now more than 150 years old, the church has been well maintained, but this comes with associated costs that are likely to increase as the years' pass.

Using

Service

A useful & used community building

Some Friends may be regular churchgoers but many are not. While it is the responsibility of the regular churchgoers, and not the Friends, to fund the religious activity of the church, hopefully both groups share a desire to see the church used more as a community space.

Improving

Church Service

Fit for the future

It is possible to respect the heritage of the church while improving its utility as a community building by the provision of facilities that are currently lacking eg. a toilet, catering facilities and heating improvements. We plan to help the Parochial Church Council raise funds to turn their plans into reality.
